How to Clean Copper Roofs
You don’t have to buy expensive chemical treatments to get the job done of cleaning copper roofs. The ingredients are lying around in your home and in your cupboard. You will need the following items: a stiff non-metallic brush, lemon juice, and salt or vinegar. Don’t use table salt, as it will dissolve and reduce the effectiveness of the scrub. First, rinse roof with water and then apply these simply steps to a cleaner copper roof.
Remember that copper respond to oxidation; therefore ensure that you do not use substances that may cause a reaction.
Step 1- Pour lemon juice in a bucket, salt and stir until dissolved.
Step 2- Dip brush into solution and scrub on not noticeable part of your roof to determine effectiveness of your solution. Scrub with a significant amount of strength to get the desired effect. Once you have tested the solution and not seeing a change, add a cup of vinegar to the solution and mix.
Step 3- Scrub from top to bottom of roof in whatever way you like, up, down, sideways or clockwise. Use gloves to clean roof, never use bare hands.
Step 4- after you have scrubbed all the places of the roof. Rinse with water by using a hose.
Step 5- Once you are done scrubbing your roof; finish with polyurethane spray or a clear lacquer (which can be purchased at the hardware store) if you’re so desire.
